Fire near Upper Cal Pines leading to An Arrest

A man has been arrested in Upper Cal Pines in connection to fires that took place over a week ago. The suspect, taken into custody in Sutter Creek, faces several charges, including taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, receiving known stolen property, allowing a fire to escape, burning without a permit, failing to prevent a fire from spreading, and unauthorized non-agricultural burning. He is currently being held on $37,000 bail.

Local citizens of Modoc County reported on Facebook that stolen items, taken in previous thefts, were found at the site of one of the fires but unfortunately perished in the fire. Thankfully the owner of the stolen vehicle was able to obtain it before it was further damaged from the fire.

Citizens in the area praised the emergency personnel for their quick response time and how effectively they were able to extinguish the fire.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
