Dog attacks deliveryman, severe injuries

By Jean Bilodeaux

Special to the Record

Last week a delivery man was faced with a life threatening decision. After being bitten by a dog, should he get the rabies vaccine?

The man was delivering a package to a home in Modoc County. As he was stepping up the three steps to the door, the door burst open. He looked up and a dog was already in flight, headed for his face.

With the package in one hand and the delivery papers in the other, he had no time to protect himself. “It was so quick I didn’t have time to defend myself. I dropped everything and raised my hand to ward off the dog. It was too late, he had bitten me, but as I twisted away, the dog clawed my hand. I was still standing and started to chase the dog.
