Old Willow tree falls victim to the wind

PLANTED in 1875, this giant 150-year-old Willow tree at Stephen and Cheryl Baker’s residence, blew over March 7, 2024, due to high winds and rot, while they were in town.

Many visitors to past June Jamborees, hosted by the Bakers as s benefit for the Modoc County Library, will remember this hugetree. Will Goulden, who lived at the place as a child, had told the Bakers he took a cutting from this tree and planted it next to their farmhouse.

That tree is now the 100 plus-year-old tree in the Baker’s driveway. The Bakers plan on saving the huge, meandering tree trunk for a fun jungle gym for their grandchildren.
