Debra Harris is new Alturas Postmaster

Debra Harris has capably stepped into her new position as the Alturas Postmaster and is happy to be back in Alturas. Harris was officially appointed as the Alturas Postmaster on Jan. 27, 2024, and started on the job Jan.6, 2024.

Originally from Lansing, Michigan, Harris relocated to Alturas in 2018, to become the Canby Postmaster at the Canby, CA Post Office.

“I worked in Canby for four years and during that time I spent a year in Redding as Supervisor of distribution operations. By working in Redding, it gave me a better understanding of the postal process,” she explained.

Harris then transferred to a Postmaster position in Burney, to be slightly closer to her home in Alturas. She has one son enrolled at Modoc High School and her oldest son graduated from Modoc High in 2022. 

“I am excited to offer my skills and knowledge to the community. I am also excited to learn more about this community,” she shared with a big smile. “I am happy to be here.”

Harris started her U.S. Postal Service career as a rural route carrier outside of Lansing, Michigan inSept. 13, 2008. She’s covered a lot of miles, territory and come along way since then, while always maintaining her sense of humor and friendly, outgoing manner.
