MODOC HIGH School completed this year with a 23 percent enrollment increase. There are 28 boys and 43 girls now enrolled; however, attendance was only 53.4 percent. . The Town Council has agreed to allow boxing matches in Alturas over the Fourth of July. . . The Alturas town band furnished a lot of good music in Madeline for the game between Alturas and the Madeline boys, which Alturas won 22-3. . . J.T.Negley, the postmaster, says he has obtained a steel mesh screen to separate his postal window from his notions store. . .

86 Years Ago – 1936

THE JENNINGS Tent show is coming to Alturas featuring Tobey Tickle Britches. The

first performance will be “Little Patsy”. . . Fitzpatrick’s dry Goods store has opened in Alturas. . . Wilbur Fountain’s spirited drum was a feature attraction at the graduation exercises last night. . . Clint Fulcher is seeking nomination as the Second

Assemblyman. . . Rodeo president Harold Morgan is encouraging residents to invite

friends from far away to be in Alturas for the rodeo and parade. Hippy Burmister is now taking applications for floats in the parade.

58 Years Ago – 1966

INCUMBENTS for county offices were reinstated in the primary election Tuesday. Clara Eddie won over Frank Carroll for Superintendent of Schools, Harold Brundige won over Glenn Jobe for Assessor and John Laxague outpolled two candidates for First District Supervisor, Maurice O’Callaghan and Harold Parman. . . Coach Ken Clapsaddle is shaping up the Alturas swim team. . . All is ready for the Likely Rodeo, June 18 and 19.. . Alturas had .33 inches of rain this week to boost the total this year to 4.27 inches.

53 Years Ago – 1971

ALTURAS residents came within six inches of losing their sewer system this week.

That’s how close the Pit River came to spilling into the main pumping system and ruining everything at the sewage disposal plant. . . September14 is the date allowed for Modoc Tulelake School District voters to decide whether or not they want to disunify the district.. . The Warner Mr. Jay Cees reminds that beards for Fandango are mandatory for males, or consequences will be suffered. . .
