Local Apple Enthusiasts Invited to Reserve Historic Apple Trees

The Heritage Fruit Tree Project, an initiative under Modoc Harvest dedicated to preserving agricultural history, is thrilled to offer a unique opportunity for apple lovers and gardeners in the Modoc County area. On September 14th, at the Cedarville Farmers Market, a limited selection of fourteen grafted apple trees will be available.

These trees showcase a selection of hardy apple varieties that have been cherished in Modoc County for generations. Each tree is a cutting of an old apple variety, carefully selected and grafted on semi-dwarf rootstock. The grafts, which are 1-2 years old, embody the rich agricultural heritage of the region.

The Heritage Fruit Tree Project aims to revive and conserve the historic fruit tree varieties that played a vital role in early Modoc County’s farming traditions. By participating in this sale, supporters contribute to the preservation of these heirloom varieties and help further the mission of the project.

Pre-Order Details:

  • Date for Pre-Orders: Starting immediately until September 20th.
  • Pick-Up Date: September 21st at the Cedarville Farmers Market (9am-12pm)
  • Donation Request: $30 per tree for first-year grafts; $50 for second-year grafts.

Proceeds from the tree sales will support the ongoing development and expansion of the Heritage Fruit Tree Project, ensuring the continued preservation and availability of these historic apple varieties.
