Alturas Fire Department Investigates Blaze at Vacant Home

By Chelsea Bacon

The Alturas Fire Department is investigating a fire that damaged a vacant home off of Carlos St and two outbuildings Friday afternoon.

The fire, which was contained to under two acres, was confirmed to have started when a man mowing nearby with a lawnmower inadvertently sparked the blaze. Firefighters responded quickly and prevented the flames from spreading to nearby properties.

The home that was destroyed has been vacant for many years, and no injuries were reported. Many citizens gravitated to the incident trying to get a better view.

Residents in the area expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the need to always have an emergency plan in place in unexpected incidents.
