Visit the Bookworm 

Attached to the Alturas library for our HALF-PRICE sale on all hardcover books, including children’s books! (Books, DVDs, and CDs priced at $2 or less.) Open M, T, Th, F noon to 4 pm.

Sunday May 12th 

The Surprise Valley VFW would like to invite everyone to their annual Mother’s Day Brunch held at the VFW Hall about a quarter of a mile north of Cedarville. The Brunch will start at 9am until 1pm Sunday May 12th. You don’t have to be a Mom to stop in and enjoy our wide range of items on the menu. Which is too long to list everything we have to offer for a family of four with teenagers, $50.00. Individually $15.00 Kids 10 and under eat for FREE! You can’t find a better price for an all you can eat Mother’s Day Brunch!

The menu includes, (but this is not everything) Bacon, Sausage Links, Sausage Pattys, Potatoes O’brien, Steamed Beef Roast, Spinach Quiche, Poached Eggs, Scrambled Eggs, Biscuits and Gravy, Canadian Bacon, Waffles, Pancakes, Assorted Freshly Baked Muffins, Bagels, English Muffins, Assorted Fruits. Of course, what Mother’s Day Brunch would be complete without Mimosas?

So bring the family and enjoy a great brunch as a way to say thank you for that special woman that does so much. Or come on in with a few friends and enjoy brunch. You don’t have to be a Mother to enjoy our menu.

Veterans Bingo

Many incentives are being added to the Veterans Bingo, so the winnings are even bigger! The Guaranteed Blackout of $200 (donated in memory of Mary Richardson by her husband Jimmy Richardson, will continue with an additional $100 for the pot throughout 2024.

Also, even more $100 “Hot Balls” could ultimately give a winner $500, when combined with the $200 Blackout.

The next Veteran Bingo games are on Sunday, May 5 at the Veteran’s Hall, South Main Street in Alturas. Doors open at 11 a.m. – At noon enjoy a potluck lunch (bring a favorite dish to share). Bingo starts at 1 p.m. and if you bring a new guest, you get a free game six-pack!

VFW Auxiliary and Post donates the proceeds to scholarships for Veterans’ children who graduate from Modoc High School. Come on out and play! Players must be at least 18 years old.

Monday April 13th

Alturas Country Jam

Alturas Country Jam welcomes the public to enjoy the music on Monday evenings from 6:30-9 pm at the Federated Church, 307 E. 1st St. Alturas. Bring your voice, bring your instrument or come to listen. Admission is free. Donations go to the church for supplies. Everyone is welcome.

Traditional Hunter Education Course 

Traditional Hunter Education Course will be held in Alturas on Monday May 13th, Wednesday May 15th and Friday May 17th. The course will be held at the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office annex, located behind the main building. The course begins at 6:00pm until 9:00pm all three nights. Attendance is required all three nights. Course materials will be provided. You can also pick up the course materials at Four Seasons ACE Hardware. There is NO COST for the course or materials. 

Class size is limited to 30 people. Registration is a requirement prior to the course. You can register at Ca Dept of Fish and Wildlife website /Hunter Education. Upon passing the course you will be issued a certificate to obtain a Calif. Hunting License. The course is just in time to apply for the Big Game drawing held in June. We will cover Firearm Safety, Hunter Responsibility, Conservation and

Preservation, Survival along with

Game Care and Cleaning.

Modoc County Young Farmers and Ranchers
