Music enthusiasts in Surprise Valley and beyond are gearing up for an extraordinary musical event as Grammy-nominated ensemble Agave takes center stage at Marchy Barn. The free concert, titled “From Her Hands,” is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at noon.
Agave, a Bay Area-based ensemble known for its exceptional performances of string chamber music spanning centuries, will treat audiences to a repertoire featuring compositions by esteemed female composers. Among the highlights are works by Dora Pejacevic, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Florence Price, and Margaret Bonds.
Adding to the excitement, the concert will feature premieres of original compositions by Surprise Valley residents Charles Valona and Sequoia Klugherz, underscoring the collaborative spirit of the event.
This performance marks the second installment of Agave’s year-long residency in Surprise Valley, a partnership aimed at exploring and celebrating music composed over the past five centuries. The residency, facilitated by Surprise Valley Culture and Arts (SVCA), has seen Agave collaborate with local musicians of all ages to uncover hidden gems in the musical scene.
“We’re thrilled to bring Agave’s exceptional talent to Marchy Barn for what promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of music,” said a representative from SVCA. “Through projects like this, we aim to foster a vibrant cultural scene in Surprise Valley and showcase the wealth of artistic talent in our community.”
