Modoc NF Fights “Hunters Fire” Wednesday Afternoon

The U.S. Forest Service-Modoc National Forest responded to a fire near Hunters Ridge on the Big Valley RD at approximately 3:38 p.m. last Wednesday. The Hunters Fire was discovered by aircraft en route to another incident, which allowed for quick response by fire crews, preventing it growing beyond 5 acres. By 6 p.m. that evening, dozer lines and hose lays had been established around 50% of the fire’s perimeter. Crews worked overnight to strengthen containment, and by 5 p.m. Thursday, containment was up to 80% with full control of the blaze expected by Friday. The cause of the Hunters Fire is still under investigation, though it is believed to be human-caused.
