The Modoc County unemployment rate ticked up from 3.5 percent in December to 10.2 percent in January, according to the State Employment Development Department.
The civilian labor force numbered 3,190 in January 2,024 with 2,860 employed and320 unemployed.
In January, 2,023 the labor force was at 3,140, with 290 unemployed and 2,850 employed. By comparison, in December 2,023 the labor force was at 2,940 with 240 unemployed and 2,850 employed.
Total nonfarm employment was at 2,500 in January and farm employment was at 190. Total private employment was 1,300 and government employment was at 1,200.
The biggest part of government employment breaks down as 990 local government, 70 state government and 140 in federal government. Modoc’s 10.2 unemployment rate ranks it 52nd out of the state’s 58 counties for highest unemployment. Lassen County ranks 36th at7.1 percent, Shasta ranks 31at 6.4 percent, Siskiyou ranks 46th at 8.7 percent. The highest unemployment is in Colusa at 19.3 percent and the lowest is San Mateo at 3.7 percent.
